The pawlidays are here and the pet lovin’ community has no shortage of fun events, activities, adoptions and more! We rounded up 20 pet events you don’t want to miss out on!

 


spcaLA Holiday Charity Bazaar

December 1: Join spcaLA for the Holiday Charity Bazaar in Long Beach. Shop artisanal, hand-crafted gifts from local vendors and find treasures and bargains from spcaLA’s rummage sale. Plus, get a copy of Designer Dogs autographed by spcaLA President, Madeline Bernstein. 10% of vendor sales benefit spcaLA; 100% of rummage sales benefits spcaLA. Saturday, 9 a.m. – noon. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center, 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach.

 

Holiday Brunch with Bassets & Adoption Reunion

December 1:  Join this fun filled holiday event! There will be food and drinks for the humans and treats for the hounds. Santa will be there for photos. There will be a BHRSC merchandise booth for your holiday shopping needs.  Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon. Huntington Beach Central Park (near the dog park on the corner of Edwards St. and Inlet Drive).

 

Christmas Photo Shoot with Bunny Bunch

December 1-2: Bring rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas for a holiday photo shoot of their very own! Join this Christmas themed photo shoot to raise money for the organization Bunny Bunch Rabbit Rescue. Photos start at a $15 donation, can be printed, emailed or both. Saturday and Sunday, 12:30-4 p.m. 4601-1 Brooks St., Montclair and 10534 Bechler River Ave., Fountain Valley.

 

5th Annual Corgi Christmas Parade

December 1: If you haven’t been before, you are in for a treat! See hundreds of corgis dressed in their most festive Christmas gear, spreading pawliday cheer! Come spectate or participate. You must have a ticket and a corgi/corgi mix to march in the parade. Holiday Attire is mandatory for all persons marching. There will also be a Christmas Parade Best CorgWagon Contest! Deck out your corgwagon with lights, garland, a holiday theme… prizes will be pawsome! Limited to 200 persons. Saturday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. “Tickets” are purchase of a SoCal Corgi Nation flag, $8/each. Belmont Shore, Long Beach.

 

Operation Santa Paws 2018

December 1-21: An annual collection of pet toys, shelter supplies and treats that are delivered to shelter and rescue dogs and cats. Deliveries will be made on December 22nd to animals in need. Visit their website for program details and drop-off locations.

 

Pet Loss Counseling and Support Groups of Orange County

December 1: Pet Loss Counseling and Support Groups provide therapeutic and compassionate support to assist you when saying goodbye to the pet you love. Facilitated by Andrea Keith, LMFT, support groups meet 12:30-1:30 p.m., typically on the first or second Saturday of each month. No reservations required. 4199 Campus Drive, #550, Irvine, 92612. Santa Paws Photos in Dana Point

December 1: The Pet Project Foundation is excited to host the 7th Annual Santa Paws event. Bring down your pet and have their picture taken with Santa for a small fee.  All proceeds go to support the Pet Project Foundation which supports the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

 

Santa Photos at OC Animal Care

December 1, 8, 15 and 22: Bring your pet to OC Animal Care for a Photo with Santa! All participants receive a festive holiday frame with your pet’s photo and a digital copy. All donations will benefit shelter pets! Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. 1630 Victory Road, Tustin (Training and Learning Center). Free.

 

Pet Photo Nights with Santa at The Shops at Montebello

December 2 and 9: Many pet owners view their pet as an integral member of the family and are just as committed in caring for their pets as their “human” family members. Pet Photo Nights are hosted after regular mall closing and the set gets an extensive cleaning following the event to remove any potential risk to allergy sufferers. Sunday, 7:30-8:30 p.m. The Shops at Montebello, 2134 Montebello Town Center, Montebello.

 

Yappy Howl-iday Hour at Ritz Carlton in Dana Point

December 2: Bark your calendar to join other canines and their companions to sniff and schmooze at Yappy Hour. Haute hounds enjoy lapping up libations, thanks to water in his favorite flavor – bacon, chicken, beef or vegan – while human guests relax with a glass of Mutt Lynch Unleashed Chardonnay, Merlot Over and Play Dead, Chateau d’Og Cabernet Sauvignon or a refreshing cocktail featuring Tito’s Vodka. Beer and a selection of barbecue items are also available for purchase. Proceeds support The Veterans Initiative of Canine Companions for Independence. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Shoreline Dog Fanciers Annual Dog Shows in Costa Mesa

December 7-9:  The Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association will host its annual all-breed dog and obedience show! Features an all-breed show, beginner puppy, obedience, rally, NOH, and junior showmanship. Saturday-Monday, noon – 7 p.m. Free admission; parking is $8. Orange County Market Place, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.

 

Santa Paws in Mission Viejo

December 8: You and your pet can have your picture taken with Santa for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the homeless animals at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center. Friendly and social pets are welcome. Saturday, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. $20; photos will be printed immediately following the sitting. 200 Civic Center, Mission Viejo.  (949) 470-3045.

 

Old Pasadena Yappy Holidays

December 8: Big Bang Theory Way in Old Pasadena is transformed into a seasonal wonderland for pups when Yappy Holidays takes place – a delightful doggy meet-up that showcases the city’s adorably cute pooches! Event-goers can snap pics with holiday photo props and pose on the “green carpet” – costumed elves are ready to pose for pics with the pups too! Get a free Yappy Hour bandana while supplies last, enter to win the swag bag raffles, try tasty samples from The Dog Bakery, visit with the Pasadena Humane Society, and meet local Instagram doggy celebrities.  The Holly Street Stompers will be on hand to keep you toe-tapping with holiday swing and jazz. Enjoy the outdoor dog-friendly patio and an extended Happy Hour at Dog Haus Biergarten adjacent to the event. Owners with bandanna-wearing pups can continue the party with special Happy Hour pricing on several dog-friendly patios at restaurants and bars throughout the district until 5 p.m. Saturday, 2-4 p.m. Old Pasadena Management District, 93 E. DASH Agility Trials in Garden Grove

December 8 and 9: Watch the DASH Trials dog agility competitions. Saturday and Sunday. Free to spectate with your well-behaved dog. Chapman Sports Park, 11700 Knott St. Garden Grove.

 

Westside German Shepherd Rescue 16th Anniversary Fundraiser

December 8: Come celebrate the 16th Anniversary holiday fundraising event! There will be an open bar, catering by Umami Burger, a silent auction, raffle, comedy show, and a pawparazzi photo booth. The event will be outdoors under a heated tent. Saturday, 6-9 p.m.

 

Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Fair at Irvine Animal Care Center

December 9: The City of Irvine Animal Care Center will host its 12th annual Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Fair. More than 30 pet rescue groups and animal shelters will bring about 600 homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and small animals for adoption. The annual event features dozens of pet-related vendors, gourmet food trucks, a silent auction, low-cost microchipping, and an opportunity drawing. Each animal available for adoption is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated by a veterinarian. Cats and dogs are vaccinated appropriate to age. Suggested donation for the event is $2 per person or $5 per family. Parking is free. Sunday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

 

Wiener Wonderland Dog Races

December 9: Dozens of dachshunds scramble in pursuit of fame and imaginative lures as spectators cheer them on along a 20-yard cobblestone track. Handlers encourage, cajole and plead with the willful little dogs to focus on racing to the finish line, instead of the interesting sights, sounds and smells along the route. The scrappy little dogs manage to chase their “lure” to the finish line until the winners are determined. The top three winners of each race day receive trophies. Spectator tickets for purchase at the Wiener Dog Store, $3; kids (3 and younger), free. Entry fee, $16. Santa Paws Pet Photos at Lakewood Center

Mondays, through December 10: Bring your paws to see the Claus and have your pet photos taken with Santa at this special event! Domestic animals only. Pet owners are responsible for their pet’s safety and the safety of others. All pets must be on a leash or contained in a cage. Please clean up after your pet. Mondays, 5-8 p.m. 500 Lakewood Center Mall, Lakewood.

 

Santa Paws Swim Fundraiser in Long Beach

December 15: This holiday, treat your best friend to a canine swim, pet photo with Santa and more! Join this event for a fun doggy swim in the warm waters of Pools of Hope. Aqua therapy will do your doggy good. Saturday, 2 – 5 p.m. $50 per dog for a half hour swim. Space is limited.

 

Pawliday Dog Adoption Event with OC Animal Care

December 22: Come meet your newest furry family member and have them home for the holidays! Free adoption, not including microchip, leash or carrier. Saturday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. 1630 Victory Road, Tustin.
