December 1-2: Bring rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas for a holiday photo shoot of their very own! Join this Christmas themed photo shoot to raise money for the organization Bunny Bunch Rabbit Rescue. Photos start at a $15 donation, can be printed, emailed or both. December 1: If you haven’t been before, you are in for a treat! See hundreds of corgis dressed in their most festive Christmas gear, spreading pawliday cheer! Come spectate or participate. You must have a ticket and a corgi/corgi mix to march in the parade. Holiday Attire is mandatory for all persons marching. There will also be a Christmas Parade Best CorgWagon Contest! December 1-21: An annual collection of pet toys, shelter supplies and treats that are delivered to shelter and rescue dogs and cats. Deliveries will be made on December 22nd to animals in need. Visit their website for program details and drop-off locations.
December 1: Pet Loss Counseling and Support Groups provide therapeutic and compassionate support to assist you when saying goodbye to the pet you love. December 2 and 9: Many pet owners view their pet as an integral member of the family and are just as committed in caring for their pets as their “human” family members. Pet Photo Nights are hosted after regular mall closing and the set gets an extensive cleaning following the event to remove any potential risk to allergy sufferers. December 2: Bark your calendar to join other canines and their companions to sniff and schmooze at Yappy Hour. Haute hounds enjoy lapping up libations, thanks to water in his favorite flavor – bacon, chicken, beef or vegan – while human guests relax with a glass of Mutt Lynch Unleashed Chardonnay, Merlot Over and Play Dead, Chateau d’Og Cabernet Sauvignon or a refreshing cocktail featuring Tito’s Vodka. Beer and a selection of barbecue items are also available for purchase. Proceeds support The Veterans Initiative of Canine Companions for Independence. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
December 7-9: The Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association will host its annual all-breed dog and obedience show! Features an all-breed show, beginner puppy, obedience, rally, NOH, and junior showmanship. December 8: You and your pet can have your picture taken with Santa for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the homeless animals at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center. December 8: Big Bang Theory Way in Old Pasadena is transformed into a seasonal wonderland for pups when Yappy Holidays takes place – a delightful doggy meet-up that showcases the city’s adorably cute pooches! Event-goers can snap pics with holiday photo props and pose on the “green carpet” – costumed elves are ready to pose for pics with the pups too! Get a free Yappy Hour bandana while supplies last, enter to win the swag bag raffles, try tasty samples from The Dog Bakery, visit with the Pasadena Humane Society, and meet local Instagram doggy celebrities. The Holly Street Stompers will be on hand to keep you toe-tapping with holiday swing and jazz. December 8: Come celebrate the 16th Anniversary holiday fundraising event! There will be an open bar, catering by Umami Burger, a silent auction, raffle, comedy show, and a pawparazzi photo booth. The event will be outdoors under a heated tent. Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
December 9: The City of Irvine Animal Care Center will host its 12th annual Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Fair. More than 30 pet rescue groups and animal shelters will bring about 600 homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and small animals for adoption. The annual event features dozens of pet-related vendors, gourmet food trucks, a silent auction, low-cost microchipping, and an opportunity drawing. Each animal available for adoption is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated by a veterinarian. Cats and dogs are vaccinated appropriate to age. Suggested donation for the event is $2 per person or $5 per family. Parking is free. Sunday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
December 9: Dozens of dachshunds scramble in pursuit of fame and imaginative lures as spectators cheer them on along a 20-yard cobblestone track. Handlers encourage, cajole and plead with the willful little dogs to focus on racing to the finish line, instead of the interesting sights, sounds and smells along the route. The scrappy little dogs manage to chase their “lure” to the finish line until the winners are determined. The top three winners of each race day receive trophies. Spectator tickets for purchase at the Wiener Dog Store, $3; kids (3 and younger), free. Entry fee, $16. December 15: This holiday, treat your best friend to a canine swim, pet photo with Santa and more! Join this event for a fun doggy swim in the warm waters of Pools of Hope. Aqua therapy will do your doggy good. Saturday, 2 – 5 p.m. $50 per dog for a half hour swim. Space is limited.
December 22: Come meet your newest furry family member and have them home for the holidays! Free adoption, not including microchip, leash or carrier. Saturday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. 1630 Victory Road, Tustin.
