2. Huntington Beach
Dogs may be off-leash in the water and on wet sand daily, 5 a.m. – 8 p.m. Metered parking. Pacific Coast Highway between 21st and Seapoint streets.

3. Laguna Beach
Leashed dogs from dawn to dusk between September 17 – May 31; and from 6 p.m. – 8 a.m., June 1 – September 15. Metered parking. Pacific Coast Highway, Laguna Beach.

4. Long Beach
Open daily, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. Visit the Web site for details and rules. Metered parking. Belmont Shore, between Argonne and Roycroft avenues in Long Beach.


5. A Place for Paws – Laguna Woods
No big dogs allowed from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.; small dogs only. From 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., big and small dogs. Ridge Route at Peralta Drive.

6. Arbor Dog Park – Seal Beach
Open dawn to dusk; closed Thursday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., for maintenance. 4665 Lampson Ave.

7. Bellis Dog Park – Buena Park
Open daily, 8 a.m. – dusk; closed Wednesday, 10 a.m. – dusk for maintenance. 7171 8th St.

8. Best Friend Dog Park – Huntington Beach
Open weekdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Huntington’s Central Park, Edwards and Talbert

9. Central Park – Irvine

18. Cleveland National Forest Trails
Hikers must purchase a $5 day parking pass or pre-purchase an Adventure Pass, available at local sporting good stores. Open dawn-dusk. Cleveland national Forest, Trabuco Canyon.

Holy Jim Falls Trail – Three miles round trip. Skill level: Moderate to strenuous. Hiking time: 1.5 hours. The trail ascends the canyon on the left side of the parking lot.

Trabuco Canyon Trail – Five miles round trip. Skill level: Moderate. Hiking time: 3 hours. The trail features the tallest oaks, sycamores and pines in Orange County.

19. Fairview Park Trail – Costa Mesa
Six miles round trip. Skill level: Easy. Hike time: 2.5 hours. Corner of Placentia and Adams

Hiltscher Park Trail – Three miles round trip. Skill level: Easy. Estimated hike time: 1.5 hours. Corner of Bastenchury and West Valley View Drive.

Juanita Cooke Greenbelt and Trail – Five and a half miles round trip. Skill level: Easy. Hike Time: 2.5 hours. North end of Laguna Lake Park.

21. Oso Creek Trail
Three miles round trip. Skill level: Easy. Hike time: 1 hour. 27301 La Paz Road

22. Upper Newport Bay Trail
Three miles round trip. Skill level: Easy. Hiking time: 1.5 hours. Corner of Irvine Ave. and University Ave.

23. Point Vicente Interpretive Center
